In this paper we approach the concept of authenticity and its influence on the Restoration of
historical and artistic objects because the development of postmodern culture favors inappropriate interventions, away from the criteria accepted by the international community. It discusses the various factors involved in the formation of the idea of authenticity and a paradigmatic case of unofficial restoration. Thus, it outlines the keys of historical and aesthetic transformation and wants to raise awareness of the importance of cultural heritage protection. It also assesses the impact of cultural tourism in the authenticity of the architectural monuments and historic cities, and the importance of the study of heritage values like a working methodology.
